Marquette Mining Journal: Sen. Gary Peters recognized for Washington work

While most of officialdom in the nation’s capital and elsewhere has descended into partisan hell, U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Hills, seems to have found a better way to do business.

The understated lawmaker who was elected to his second six-year term in office last November, has been named the top senator in terms of enacting and advancing legislation.

The recognition came from the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking, which bestows such honors on an annual basis.

Peters’ good work covered the 116th Congress, from 2019 to 2020.

“Michiganders expect us to get things done for them — and that’s always been my focus,” Peters said in a press release. “I’m proud to be recognized as the most effective senator and for passing legislation on issues impacting Michiganders: from protecting the Great Lakes and waterfront communities – to making our communities safer and expanding skills training and apprenticeship opportunities for veterans.”

Specifically, Peters was recognized for passing 10 standalone bills into law and 14 bills through the Senate, more than any other senator from either party.

Congratulations go out to Peters, for finding ways to reach across the aisle and do the work the people of Michigan sent him to Washington to complete.

We believe his accomplishments should serve as an example to elected officials from both parties, demonstrating that it is possible to work together in a bipartisan matter for the greater good.
