Peters Statement on GSA Releasing Transition Resources to President-Elect Biden

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement after General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Emily Murphy informed President-elect Biden that the agency is making transition resources available:

“While I am glad that the President-Elect now has access to critical transition resources, this delay has created unnecessary risks to our national security and pandemic response. Our nation continues to face significant threats to our national security, including a horrific public health and economic crisis that continues to take the lives of Michiganders and other Americans. A smooth transition is critical to allowing the incoming Administration to efficiently implement their comprehensive plans to address these challenges.

“As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I will continue to closely monitor the actions of the GSA and other federal agencies to confirm that the Administration quickly provides the Biden-Harris transition with all the resources and information to which they are entitled. The Administration’s immediate cooperation is needed to help ensure a smooth transition from this Administration to the next.”

Murphy released the transition resources after Peters and 40 of his colleagues pressed Administrator Murphy to end her unprecedented delay and allow the transition to move forward more than three weeks after the American people overwhelmingly voted to elect Joe Biden as President.
